Car Insurance Renewal

I have got my renewal price through from my insurance company which they quoted as 912, after doing a bit of searching I managed to get this down to 602, with the same company. I had a fault accident claim on my most recent policy which I was told at the time would reduced my ncb down to 1 year from 3, so I did the quote based on 1 ncb, yet when I rang them to check the price they checked the quote and said I have 3 years ncb on there system and the claim is still open, so they did the quote with me having 3 years ncb and said it is OK to do this and that my renewal for next year will be 568 with 3 years ncb, is this right and once the claim has been processed will it go down to 1 years and will I have to pay more once I have started my new policy. Any advice appreciated.

Unless your NCB is protected, you have been mislead, as the claim will mean no NCB is awarded for the current year, and 2 years lost from whatever you had at the strat of the year.

Ask them to confirm in writing that your claim won't affect your NCB as the agent who told you that looks to be trying it on to get a sale!

I had an accident in 2007, It took 2 years to get to court and be solved. When my car insurance was due in the meantime, I had to declare that I had lost the NCB. I also had to declare the accident as 50/50 my fault (which eventually the court decided anyway) but yeh basically they made me pay 'worse case scenario' until the case was closed, but by that time I had built up more no claims anyway!

    Hope this makes sense?!

So I guess I am best to get covered with the ncb being stated as a year, even though the claim still hasnt been settled yet, and thus it still shows 3 years ncb on there system?
