Power of Attorney and Siblings

I have recently found out that my mum and her brother are applying for power of attorney over my great aunt. My great aunt has no children or husband. My mum has told me that the solicitors involved need mine and my sisters address as it's the law?

Why am I involved in this? I need to give an answer by tomorrow so if some could advise a.s.a.p. it would be appreciated.

This is not for us to explain, it is for your mother, her brother and their solicitor to explain to you. It sounds like nonsense, but give them the benefit of the doubt and if the explanation does not hang together, post the summary here and see what we make of it

Thanks for the link but it doesn't answer my question as to why my address is required. Only that it is law that my address details are required

The addresses of all near relatives are required now by law - that is why!

Your name and address is needed so you can be formally informed about the POA and lodge any objection yu may have.

As I haven't filed for the POA it shouldn't have anything to do with me.

But they are able to check that you do not have any objections, that you do not feel she is as bright as a button and so on. I am sure that there are dodgy attempts to get control of elderly people's money, so it enables you to voice an opinion if you so wish. I suppose it's a bit like those in the area being notified when there is a planning application.

I'm sure the welfare of your great aunt is nothing to do with you. So much for family.
