Hi all
5-6 weeks ago I paid for something by cheque. The recipient has cashed the cheque but the money is also still in my account. So far I have left the money in my account in case the bank take the money at any moment. But what I need to know is how long do the bank have before they can no longer take the money? It's a pain having to remember to leave the money in my account as it is quite a large sum.
Thanks:A

6 years. Although its usually found and corrected within 6 weeks rather than 6 years. Typically, if it gets to 12 months then you are unlikely to find them calling it but you need to be aware that they can.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). When was the cheque "cashed" or paid in. If it was in the last day or two then it will go out of your account shortly. If not, then as dunstonh says it will be found and rectified and the money taken from your account when this is found.Save £12K IN 2013 Member #217 £3654.88/£6,000 (60%)
