if you buy iams 1kg chicken flavour from tesco. £5.02 you can get double the difference back as its £3.00 in asda. so would only cost you94p a kilo. there is a very long thread about it in grabbit.Hi - we have three strays whcih we feed a combination of Tesco dry and tinned catfood. As they seem to waste more than they eat I bought some IAMS (on offer) - chicken lfavour - which they seem to love. But I have the feeling ti'll be very expernsive to feed exclusively.
Do others use just dry food and which do you recommend?life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0 -
My cat is on a special diet for crystals in his bladder so costs me a bit to feed, but I find the dry version of this far far cheaper than the wet. The dry comes in a big bag, and that can last for a few months, it also seems to fill him more than wet food.
before this he was also on dried food, not a special diet food, but this was also so much cheaper than wet, with him eating less and a bag lasting longer.
I put out a bowl of dry food in the morning when I get up, and in the evening, and that does him. He can munch away throughout the day but he doesn't get fed apart from that. Mainly because of his diet, but mainly because he'd eat me out of house and home if let!carpe diem

I found this forum post (by hobbs2004) very useful - from Pet Forums. There's also one for wet food with very detailed nutritional and price analyses.
It takes a bit of time to read, but is highly informative.0 -
I feed mine Applaws dry food - it is more expensive than other dried foods but the higher quality of it means I need to feed much less - around 40g per day.
Did you know Sainsburys sell Applaws under their own branding - Encore. It is £4.40 for 800g bags so handy when the Applaws is running out and the online stores don't have any in stock. Works out about the same price per kg as buying a 7.5kg bag of Applaws.0 -
We feed our cats (4 months old) on wet and dry food, and make sure we weigh it out. They often leave a bit of the wet food (pouches) but the dry food usually gets eaten up because they tend to nibble at it till it's gone.
I've changed the foods several times - to cater for their changing tastes, mostly! At the moment they have Hi Life kitten pouches, and Hill's (Natures Best)/Applaws dry food. They love the Nature's Best and rarely leave any
But I wonder how long that will last??! 0 -
I've fed both my dogs and cats dried food for years now. I have used Ians and Eukanuba and am currently feeding Oakley ( dog) Wainwrights and Annie (cat) Royal Canin Maine Coon. I've never had any problems with digestive stuff for any of my animals since i've been feeding dry food, as people say, less waste, less smells, plus it doesnt attract flies in summer if it isnt immediately eaten.0

We feed our 2 cats James Wellbeloved dry food and it is working out much cheaper than wet food, plus it is a lot better for them as it has a higher percentage of meat in it. My cats used to leave wet food and they house smelt by the time we got in from work.
As soon as they here us lift out the dry food they appear from nowhere and there is never anything left in either of their bowls!0
