Car registration

A friend of mine has an old MGBGT in his garage which he hasn't used for about fifteen years( yes along with another old classic which he is just getting done up). Unfortunately he hasn't registered the thing with the D.V.L.A. as he forgot once it became unroad worthy. How can he register it without getting prosecuted for not registering it in the past?

Or how would I do the same if I took it off him (which is the reason for me asking:beer:)

I doubt that the car is not registered at the moment, unless he has sent the V5 back to the DVLA with the 'scrapped' box ticked.

If he hasn't and the car has been off the road for 15 years then he need to do absolutely nothing. He has done nothing wrong.

He could, if he wanted to, declare it SORN but he doesn't legally have to. If he does, he will have to remember to carry on doing so every year until he taxes or scraps it.

If you take the car off him then you just need to send off the V5 with the change of ownership details. You may then have to declare it SORN. Ask the DVLA.

The rule came into force in 1996 or 1997 so if its been off the road for that long then there
    wont be a problem.

Just send off for a change of keeper and declare SORN yourself.

    Sorn was in 1998.
If you didn't register the vehicle in 1983, when the DVLA put in their computer, you'll have to do this now
