Do you think that Lloyds TSB actually check the date on every cheque ?!! You should be speaking to the people who banked the cheque.0

How do you know the payee used a Bank? If the company the OP made the cheque out to uses it's own or outsourced cheque processing equipment ..... the cheque probably went direct to Clearing from there.
