= Economy 10 switch over mishap - Urgent help needed

I have been renting my 2 bedroom electricity only flat for about 5 months now. On 14th February I decided that I wanted to get the best possible electricity prices so I checked a few price comparison websites and found that I could save approximately £300 per year by switching from EON economy 7 billed quarterly by invoice. To OVO economy 7 billed monthly by direct debit.

What a great and easy way to save I thought so I eagerly started the switching process. The switch will be complete any day now but there is 1 problem. I am NOT currently on economy 7 I am on economy 10 and I think I have 3 electricity metres! I called OVO and they said they can take over the part of my supply that covers economy 7 and eon will remain the supplier of the rest which means I will receive 2 bills (1 from ovo and 1 from eon) Do you think this will still save me money or should I just abandon the switch? If I am to abandon it I need to let OVO know by tomorrow or I will be charged a penalty.

Thanks in advance for your advice

You may get hit with 2 standing charges / first tier rates which will possibly make it unviable, not an expert just a thought.

Such attempts at switching invariably end in tears.
(To clarify, I mean anyone attempting to switch that is not currently on a generally available tariff such as a single rate or E7 dual rate)

I would suggest you speak with the suppliers and see if you can get the whole thing called off.

OVO may be talking cr*p. Have a look at your bill and see if you have 2 S numbers which based on OVOs comments you do have. The S number will look like this:

    S 01 039 001
    23 4567 6789 123
To tell if your 2 MPANs can be split between 2 suppliers you need to look at the middle 3 digits on the top line (039 in this example). If the number is between 500 and 799 (inclusive) then the Meter Points (MPANs) are "related" and must not be split up. So if one of your have a number in that range phone OVO and tell them the MPANs are related and they either have to take both (all) or none in line with industry rules.

If you have 2 MPANs you should always get a supplier to take over both. Otherwise you are asking for problems.

    Hi fernendo

Must admit, I'm not sure about your set up.

Economy 10 is generally one meter and two MPANs. One MPAN for the standard meter and the second attached to the storage heating part of the arrangement.

As others have said, a prospective supplier would usually need to take over both MPANs.

There are some Restricted Hour Tariff (RHT) metering set ups that are often thought of as Economy 10 but are, in fact, separate hybrid arrangements. These sometimes involve two meters.

I would suggest having a chat to one of our specialist metering teams and ask them to explain your actual set up. Then approach the supplier of your choice with this info and see if they can support the arrangement.

Sorry this is a bit vague fernendo but hope it points you in the right direction.
