Does accepting a rent increase imply accepting a new tenancy agreement?

    so they gave you a Statutory Periodic Tenancy ... the tenancy contionues uinder the opriginal terms excpet the tenant may terminate the contract by giving one mobnths notice (timed to coiincide with the rental period dates). being cynical one assumes the LA did not draw your attention to the fact the LL must give 2 months notice of seeking repossession

    as said if you paid for this "memo" you made a silly mistake

    Yes, 00ee25, that's pretty much what the 'memo' said. It did also say landlord's notice was 2 months and I didn't pay for the renewal. 1 month's notice was at any point during tenancy and not to coincide with rent dates.

    It was just a suggestion for OP as it solved my problem when in a similar situation but maybe not as others don't seem to think it's a good idea to tell the LL that you may leave within the year.

    [edit] Just looked up the document. It was a renewal for a fixed term and not a periodic tenancy.

    It was a renewal for a fixed term and not a periodic tenancy.
    Either it was for a fixed term (eg 12 months);
    OR it could be ended at any time by giving notice (eg one month);
    OR it was a rubbish contract/memo!

    And while I agree with those who advocate asking/talking about the options, I'd always advise asking the landlord, not the agent, as the agent has different aims.
