You are entitled to time of for dependants. It would be unpaid - anything else is at your employer's discretion. If you can't afford to take it unpaid you could ask to take it as holiday but you are not entitled to do so.
Hope he gets better soon.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
My kids always come first, if they are ill, sometimes I phone in sick myself - (not your problem if work cant provide cover and they just rely on you) or if its a problem with heating at the school etc - I ring work and tell them that (its announced on the local radio - so darent lie about that)
You should by law, be entitled to pay, however, in my past cases, (as Im only part-time) I usually work back the hours or take it as holiday. (thats if ive not gone sick myself)
Hope your LO is feeling better soon.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I thought if you had kids after 1/12/99 or some such date ( I Know I just missed out with my DS him being 6/99) that parents are entitled to somthing like 6 weeks in the first 5 years of life unpaid to care for their child. Or has that changed.0

That is pre-booked time off though, not really intended for emergency time off. You are however entitled to time off for dependants at short notice this is not entitled to be paid though. If you get paid that's because your employer has used their discretion. in law it is unpaid time off for dependant care (e.g sick child or another person that is dependant on you for their care).MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
Just wanted to say that my 2 have just had chicken pox. DD (3.5yrs) got it first from pre-school then DS (22mths) came out with spots about 10/11 days later - that's about average for incubation period. They shouldn't go out (except doctors obviously
) until all the spots have dried up. I checked with my pre-school leader, cos I've known some parents to be 'touchy' about seeing kids with spots at playgroups/etc in the past, and she said as long as they're dried up/scabbed over it's ok for DD to come back cos you can wait forever for scars to go away completely... You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs
