Can I put a coconut on the birdfeeder?

I bought 2 coconuts last week (2 for £1), the children tried it and didn't like it, me and OH don't like them either, can we brake the other one in half and put it on the birdfeeder for them to peck at?

Sure can, it's quite a traditional way to feed birds

Awesome, thank you! I couldn't bring myself to put it in the food bin.

We have 2 halves on our bird feeder, although the local squirrel seems to enjoy it more than the birds !!

Is it also ok to feed birds normal red skin peanuts?.
It may seem a silly question but we got a little bird feeder ages ago & I've just found it but we only have a pack of normal red skin peanuts in the house (left from xmas) & my DS is desperate to put them out for the tweet tweets! but I wasn't sure if we are meant to buy the special ones from pet shop.
You can tell I know nothing about birds!.
    Thanks in advance!
