Say you feel vunerable and at risk of a break in.
Write to them stating that if this should occur you will hold them responsible and put cc (name of your contents insurers ) on the letter.
If it's a Housing association ask about the tenants commitee and who to direct a complaint to.

You should ask the firefighters to come and check it. They do this service for free too. They'll check all your emergency exits (windows etc) and smoke alarms etc etc etc. And they'll either notice your front door or you'll point it out.
If they agree that it is unsafe, then get it in writing, and then contact the council.
    Good luck.
Point out things like if they keep it in this state and someone 'falls' into it and it comes down and hurts someone, they'd have to pay out a lot more than just fitting it. :D
 Thank you to everyone!

Yes, it will have to meet the regulations of today. I checked.

No! Your current door only has to meet the regs of previous. A new door would have to meet the regs of now.

So while you may deem it unfit, your council inspector will be inspecting against the basis of previous regulations.

That's what I'm saying. The new door has to meet the new regs. However, with the age of the door, it was probably fitted before there were any regs. If I remember correctly, the building I live in was built in the 30s.
