Porchester station is the closest one to South Park. It takes about ten minutes to get there.
Don't send it via DHL, it will get lost and/or the guardroom will not sign for it, it is a quick way for his kit to go missing.

There are certain special military courses that will not even give you directions on how to get there or what to bring. The rationale of this is, if you don't know then the course is not for you in the 1st place. Ok he will be slightly inconvenienced, he'd better get used to that should he decide to make a career out of this. Another tip, If he turns up on the Saturday they are obliged to accomodate him, they can't turn him away. This is what transit accom is for.
I cannot believe this is actually seen as an issue! I have to agree with the above. Get on with it. Admittedly he is not turning up for selection but if he is going to get or allow his parents to get in to such a tizzy about this what will they do when he gets his orders for Helmand?0 -
You forgot "improvise" !0

He did try to prearrange it, rang 3 weeks before and was told to ring back (ie thinking about it) and on another two occassions but he still got a no. 3 weeks before might have been too soon/too late though
I wonder what the reaction would be if he had arrived on Friday and set up a tent in the car park and just waited it outAlias_Omega wrote: »Pre-arranged it would not have been a problem. The accomodation office works mon-fri on most bases, which mean that the keys for he accomodation are held in the main guard room from friday midday for collection.
He could of arrived at the guard room, and taken on transit accomodation. If no accomodation was available, i would of proceeded to get them to sign me a JPA F95 allowing myself to book a hotel through CHBS (or whatever they are called these days). Permitting me travel too and from the accomodation/hotel via a local taxi firm. Keeping all receipts using them for any further references during the JPA claim.
With no doubt upon mentioning of this, the keys would of been issued within a flash. I suspect there was an ex-serving member off staff at the main gate issuing keys and passes with the idea of "its always been done like this"..“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. i have done a luggage trip with my nephew Glasgow to Winchester (left Glasgow 10pm got to Winchester 8.30am) and it's a lot to carry i helped him & nearly knocked someone on to the tracks at Winchester when i turned round to talk to my nephew, the mad thing is they don't need half of it but they insist they take as it's in there check list.
take your car less money, less hassle & less time.0 -

I know the 'man up' comment was a bit harsh-but I have to agree with it!
My two sons both came home after phase 1 (we're near Inverness-in the Highlands) and had to go to Blandford and Deepcut respectively for Phase 2..There was NO way I was driving them down, and flying down wasn't an option due to the amount/weight of luggage.
They both either got overnight trains/busses-and had to get on with it. Both carrying all their stuff (yes iron etc in their grips) plus their Number 2s in a suit bag-AND their hats in their boxes.
Even now-when they both drive, they still do the overnight thing on a bus-usually carrying an XBox or something.
I don't mean to be rude in the slightest-but if he gets posted abroad and has to carry loads of stuff, are you going to drive him? He's a soldier for goodness sake! Carrying a few bags is nothing after what he went through to pass Phase 1.
All the best to the family though :jRuaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

Probably not the best advice, particularly for a trainee!
The form you are talking about is now called a JPAF008 - non availability of service accomodation. However, you need to agree this in advance with the budget holder, someone has to pay for it. You can't turn up last minute requesting accommodation and expecting a hotel room and taxis if non available.
Best advice is plan ahead, surely this could have been easily sorted before leaving Phase 1 establishment.
I agree with the fella that said man up and get on with it !

Drive him there and tell him to claim GYH (EY) and to make sure his Phase 1 unit gives him a UK PASH form which entitles him to 6 cubic meters worth of luggage to have shipped via a civi moving firm to his new spot (~ £260) or you can use it as an additional 2 GYH (EY). didnt find out about that gem until my 4th move!0
