Is this a known car sales scam?
Hi all, i have seen an ad for a car which looks too good to be true. Which as my dad says, the clue is usually in the title! But there is still a part of me which wants it to just be a bargain car.
I emailed to ask whether they had had any probs with the car or if it had any dents/scratches, basically asking why it was so cheap. The answer i got back was very detailed about the car, that it was free from finance, would come with all the paperwork and receipt from new. Said he is a policeman in the uk but is currently in the us so would arrange for the car to be delivered and would want to do the transaction on ebay so it was protected. But he wants rid of the car as soon as possible as it was his wife's car and she died so it holds bad memories for him.
Even as i type this i'm thinking its a load of rubbish!
I've just not heard of it before.

Its a very well known scam.
You will end up paying the money to what is supposed to be a 'safe' paypal transaction from which you wont have to release the money until after you get the car (after getting a badly worded email allegedly from paypal saying such) and of course the car will never appear and your money will be gone.

I don't like it........
Telling you he's Police officer is like saying "yeah you can trust me", normally the Police don't like to bring work into their private life.
I'd want to speak to the guy and make sure he was English and I'd ask which constabulary he's part of and then contact them with his story, if he's lying then he's impersonating a Police officer and could get into a whole world of !!!!!!.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

^^ Yeah, but from the OP's description how the hell do you internet search for it? I found no similar stories anywhere.... Hence my precautionary advice, which in the case of a scam would lead to the "seller" running a mile any way“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

DEFINITELY A SCAM!
If you check gumtree car sale adverts you will come across a few in there telling the same story.
Please do not fall for this"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0 -
Thanks all!
You are all totally right. I had emailed back saying OK, well as you're a polieman you will be more aware than most of all the scams so can you tell me where the car is so I can go and look at it, as obviously no-one would buy a car without seeing it.
Got a massive email back telling me "how it will work" because he is apparently too busy with work.
My Dad is always right!0
