Scottish Power have a tariff called comfort plus and comfort plus heating, this includes a standing charge it also means you cannot switch suppliers and to me should be stopped , they also have online accounts you may believe your saving on this charge but you are sinply not i have fought them for ages over this as have mp , you need to pay to get your meter changed and on to standard rate before you can switch numerous offers have been refused as sales people infrom us they need a code and scottish power will not supply this.
Bitish Gas, a warning here for people on disabilty if you also have a disabiklty car you are means tested by them for doing although they will not admit have had numerous e mails from them all completely round about just plainly avoiding subject or trying to get around it they will not comment any further.
What more i contacted AGE CONCERN AGE Scotland here as they are partners on their website I got no help when asked them to look into this completely unsatisfactory let alone unbelievable so much for help organisations, i did this on behalf of a neigbour, and they only admitted this over the fone by one advisor and people that are Motability Car users are simply being misled, NOT ONLY but even this is not means tested by the government or indeed TAXMAN

Scottish Power will not prevent you from switching supplier, and therefore there is nothing they are doing that needs to be stopped.

You are free to choose any supplier that offers an appropriate tariff that is compatible with your existing set-up. The only issue you have is no other supplier offers a suitable tariff. It's a free market and suppliers can choose what and what not to offer. The only requirement is that suppliers must continue to support customers in their supply area that were already on that tariff prior to privatisation.

Note there are some suppliers that may even take you on, but they are unlikely to be able to support with an appropriate tariff and invariably it all ends in tears when a switch is requested and a new supplier attempts to take over the supply.

    Hi desb48

I appreciate your comments regarding the restrictions you have in relation to your electricity tariff. Your property is wired in such a way that is specific to the ComfortPlus tariff with ScottishPower. There are 2 types of ComfortPlus tariffs with ScottishPower, ComfortPlus White Meter (3-rate tariff) or ComfortPlus Control (2-rate tariff). The ComfortPlus White Meter tariff is a 3-rate tariff which will record the following:

    1. Controlled Circuit - solely for storage heating purposes. Supply will be available for a peroid or periods (a) totalling 8.5 hours in each 24-hours period commencing at noon or (b) determined by ScottishPower Weathercall. ScottishPower will control the exact times of availability.
    2. Low / Night - Is any period of 8.5 hours between 10pm and 8.30am. The exact times will be at ScottishPowers discretion.
    3. Day / Normal Rate - Is for all other electricity used.

The ComfortPlus Control tariff is a 2-rate tariff and will record the following

    1. Heating Rate (Low rate) - Is for the storage heating (controlled circuit), water heating circuit and direct heating circuit. This rate effectively records all heating used within the property and makes sure you are charged at the lower rate. The controlled circuit is for the storage heaters and is controlled by ScottishPower weathercall.
    2. Domestic Rate (Higher rate) - Is for all other electricity used.

Other suppliers may not be able offer a suitable tariff for the way your property is wired and as such you may not benefit from the lower unit rates for the heating being used or for the electricity being used at night and so your charges may increase.

If you have any further questions please let me know and I will be happy to help.

    Kind Regards
