Toilet question

Can anyone tell me how it increase the water level in the cistern please? I've recently moved house and the flush on the toilet is pathetic because the cistern doesn't fill up enough. I've tried looking on various websites but as a toilet novice I have no idea what their instructions are on about :(.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Describe the internal fill arrangements or better still post a pic for a very precise answer. They are not all the same.

In general terms though if you have a ballvalve adjust the arm (bend it) that the ball is on upwards so that it shuts off the flow later in the fill cycle. If you have a more modern designed valve then you also need to adjust the float height and although the float performs the same function as the ball, the physical operation is quite different and as said, there are different types so it would help to know the make/model of your fill valve or see a pic.

there a few types. the old one and the modern one is shown above.
(most are just a variation of the above).

all of em involve adjusting the float height. on the old type you just bend the rod slightly. up or down.
    Get some gorm.

There will be an expert plumber on here any minute to tell you the exact model number and where to download the manufacturers manual, but...... I think there is a (plastic) screw on the valve that allows the Blue ball to float higher in the cistern, allowing the water level to remain higher.

it should be summat like this one. the screw on the arm is the adjuster.
    (with the locknut).

Yep, I have something that looks the same as this...do I tighten it to make the water level higher?

RHS of the image is what you have. Ignore diagram on LHS.

Loosen the lock nut anti-clockwise. Turn the adjusting screw clockwise a couple of turns. Tighten the lock nut. Let it fill up and see where it settles. Keep adjusting until you get it where you want it.
