The trick is to start pushing new jobs/tasks back to the originators with a polite reminder you are leaving.

Never a truer word spoken. It is still hard to do.

I only have 5 working days now and am up and down but made some good contacts yesterday. Need to look at the criteria for expanding my Nebosh qualification to include Construction Design and Management.

more importantly I have arranged to go to the local with a few friends as a bit of a leaving do.

    Keep your updates coming.

I'll be following your thread... I accepted VR last month, I work at a university and I leave at the end of July... plenty of time to spend the year's salary I will be getting!

My first plan is to move while I still have a job as I rent and will need references... off to see a nice little house next week. Other than that I plan to buy a car, something that will last some time. I've been without a car for 7 years and even though the petrol prices are rising I so miss my independence.

Holidays are another thing I have been thinking about... all on a budget though, I don't want to spend all the money. I reckon I'll start looking for a job in January, have some time off... I'm 33 and been working since I was 14, so could do with a break now, and even though I'd love to have a baby, I need a boyfriend for that particular wish... :rotfl:

Oh and at least fill up an ISA! I've also thought about putting a year's worth of pension away before I leave... :D

Wow you are certainly going to make that money spread far. If you can survive without a car I would as you will always have your hand in your pocket. I do understand the loss of freedom without it though.

Even the good folks at MSE might not be able to help with the baby but I am sure you will be blessed one day. Have a good holiday and think about what you would like to do.

Good luck (make sure you get any tax you may be due back as well)

I've got a busy time ahead of me: my Jobseekers interview is on Monday afternoon, I have a job interview on Tuesday, and then I'm off on holiday on Wednesday. The job isn't the one I really want, but it will be good experience and interesting to see if I get offered it. So I'm all stressed out worrying about finding mortgage statements etc, preparing for the interview, and packing. I'm really going to need this holiday lol!

Ok now I am thinking about the tax side of things again.

I know that first £30k is tax free and remainder is taxed according to your earnings. I have already been told that I will be taxed at 20% but that Revenue & Customs may wish for more. Is this taken at source or do they contact me? Would I have to complete a self assessment?

I am not necessarily looking to work (as previously mentioned) and am ready to complete a P50 but just wondered what level of taxation I might be chasing?

    Anyone care to comment?

Today is my last day at work :j. One thing is very sure, it doesn't matter how much notice you get this day creeps up very quickly.

I said goodbye to some friends and colleagues in their new building yesterday and am meeting some in the local for the afternoon

I have continued networking and making new contacts all week and have a few people to speak with regarding possible work. If you do this yourself don't forget any contacts you may be able to get in places like the Jobcentre, Revenue and Customs etc........i am contacting one to find out about my NI contributions whilst i am out of work.

Good luck to anyone finding themselves in a similar position. Keep positive and if you can take some time out. Even a couple of weeks as a holiday if you can afford it. This could still be at home and if this weather continues you could catch up on those walks you promised you would do or that bit of gardening. I guarantee it will make you feel good :D

Keep sharing your thoughts and experiences for the benefit of others and yourself.

I had a great send off from my friends and work colleagues and lost count of the amount of times i had to answer the questions "what are you going to do now?" and "Do you have anything lined up?"

i am having 2 weeks holiday now, which coincides neatly with Son's half term break. I treated myself to a new phone as the repayments were only a few pounds more than I am already paying and well within budget. I am looking at different mortgage options as i may look at the offset ones ready for my payout or alternatively just pay it all off. Either way as I have said in earlier posts I would like to leave a small amount on it to keep the option of reborrowing in the future.

My garden is crying out to be tidied up so it looks like potting and mud fights are on the adgenda today:j

It'll be a few weeks before it all sinks in i think. I am sure some of you know this all too well.

It sounds like you had a great send-off on Friday. I've got 24 days to go and like you, the work is still pouring in. It still feels unreal. I attended a three-hour free course on Thursday about setting up my own business and I'm apparently eligible for some Welsh funding called React II. There seems to be a lot on offer here in Wales, including lots of free training relating to setting up businesses, financial help (up to £1,500) to retrain and grants to help with renting business premises. I had no idea there was so much available and plan to explore all my options over the next few weeks.
I do think your advice re taking a break is a good point though. After years of full-time work, it's bound to be very strange suddenly finding yourself with nowhere to go - even if that's what we wanted! Good luck for the future.

My experience of the training is that when you have the meetings there is lots on offer but if you don't grab it quickly the funding could either be pulled or run out.

It was great to have time to actually stop and speak with my neighbours yesterday. I am now realising how many hours i poured into work!

Today i am contacting Bank for mortgage talk. I have read quite a lot on here about whether to save or pay money off mortgage and just need to finalise a few fees questions before deciding what is right for us.

    'til next time......
