Anyway they were using me to give them info in the whereabouts of a possible neighbour (who may have debts), so in this case it was nothing for me to worry about. If they address it to 'The Occupier' they obviously dont know you by name so they are not targetting you, just hoping you are in a position to supply info.

Even so, that still sounds a bit dodgy doesn't it? I wouldn't be very happy if someone were telephoning my neighbours to find out information about me.

Any with regards to my original post, I wrote a letter to this "Hillside" and still as yet have never received a reply so think they are just a bunch of no-bodys

Just received the very same letter myself from "Hillside Services Limited" an A5 size standard printed form with spaces for the details which have been written in by hand.

AFAIK I have no unpaid debts but the house I live in was a repossession and I still receive many letters addressed to the previous occupants, who judging by the state of the front door and other parts of the house when I bought the place were forcibly ejected.

Unfortunately in my dealings with the various organisations that write to my address, it's quite clear that the previous occupant is still giving out my address as his address.

I'll give them a ring and see if I can clear this up.
Trying hard to be a good moneysaver.

Just thought I'd let you know the result. Hillside called me back the following day and as I suspected they were looking for the previous occupant, apparently "they have some post for him" :). I bet they do, considering the stuff I've seen incl. DVLA (fines for no tax etc.), various bits of credit etc.

I told them I'd never met him and that he hasn't lived there for nearly 3 years. They thanked me for the info and that was that.

Hopefully this may cut down on some of the mail coming through.

OK I know this is a very old thread. I happened to google something and came across this thread, so thought I'd add my twopenneth...because I once worked for Hillside Services (I must have been bad in a former life) and I hasten to add from day 1 I knew I'd made a mistake taking the job and left not long after).

But in a nutshell - they do not collect debt. They simply "find people" on behalf of their clients, who might happen to be (for example) one of the large high street banks or well known credit card companies.

Hillside send these cards asking you to contact them in order to establish if a person still lives at the LKA (last known address) and no, their tactics are not entirely honest to say the least. If you get a card with a letter after the reference number you are asked to quote, then chances are it isn't you they are looking for and you are "a neighbour"....We would put A and B for the potential next door neighbours, C and D for nxt Dr but 1.....

If we could establish they still lived there or a possible new address then that part was done. We also never used our real names.

We sometimes had to come up with some pretty elaborate stories if someone became suspicious and wasn't forthcoming with information we suspected they might have.

Failure to establish residency after this, lead to other methods of tracing them, which were very unethical, probably illegal and which is why in the end, one of the reasons I left. I was not prepared to do anything illegal to do a job. It was quite high pressured because if we couldn't get a positive trace on someone then we didn't get paid by the client.

They were so heartless that not only did they demand I did unpaid overtime in the evenings (when my husband was working nights and I had a small child to look after), they also rang me telling me to sort out some evening childcare for the following evening, when I had just informed that my husbands aunty had just taken her own life that day.... they DID NOT CARE...so long as I was finding people and making them money.

So if a company called Hillside sends you a card saying there is a message for you, or a package they need to deliver...or you get a card from another company telling you a similar sort of thing....now you know exactly what they are!
  • I Recived A Phone Call From This Company Asking About A Neighbour ,but What Is Worrying Is That They Knew My Name And My Phone Number Which Is Withheld And When I Asked How He Got My Details He Said That Direct Inquiries Had Given It To Them Does This Sound Like They Were Looking For Me
  • Just to back up my point on another thread. This is a link to another site with someone who apparently used to work there disclosing their practices.

  • They rang an elderly relative of mine posing as an old school friend and asked her lots of questions about the family and where various people are living now etc. They tried very hard to get addresses and telephone numbers out of her and when she wouldn't give them up they dropped all pretence and tried to frighten her into doing it instead. Bad People.
