Help! connecting a washing machine

Just moved and bought a new Panasonic machine which arrived today. I am puzzled as to how to connect it.

The old machine had two pipes needing connecting - hot and cold. This one has just one. However the connector seems to be too big for the cold water pipe. Is there an adapter that I need? what's it called?

you need to cap off the hot water pipe. no longer needed.
all/most new machines are cold fill only.

the connector should be a standard fit.

Thanks Ormus. That's what I thought but the connector on the washing machine is too big to connect onto the thread on the cold water pipe. It doesnt screw in.

you should have one (or two) washing machine valves like this one.
on the end of the 15mm copper pipe.

theres a few ways of capping off the old hot pipe or valve.

they look like that but the connector on washing machine is larger than the cold water pipe. I took pictures but cant work out how to post them here. so the cap is too big to screw into the thread.

do you have the (blue) hose as shown above?

It looks like you have been supplied with a hose that connects to a bib tap variant. Contact your washing machine dealer for the correct hose.

You need a 3/4 in BSP threaded valve like this one:



to connect a standard WM hose to. I think thats what eamon is driving at too.

It sounds as though its the current plumbing thats out of step rather than the new machine.
