  • When it comes down to it I'd rather have lived a life rich with experiences than rich with shelves full of crap :D

See that seems very computerised and, no offence, cold to me. Everything is pixelated and not 'real'... You can't touch any of it. Don't get me wrong I'm on my laptop right now and I have an iPod touch but I also like old records, they'll always have that old dusty smell, the scratches, the realism that modern day appliances don't have.

    I hope I'm not making excuses! :p

You're right in a sense though, i'd rather buy a plane ticket to New Zealand or Sky dive out of a plane than buy a designer hand bag. It's just I never have the money to go to New Zealand because I buy lots of handbags... :(
    Toto, I
    Don't think we're in
    Kansas anymore...

Well I don't think you could call me a cold modernist by any means - I'm a qualified librarian and respect for the past, the precious and the historical is pretty much engrained in everything I do ;)

It's funny that you mention an iPod touch, as it's considerably more advanced than my iPod - does that make you a raging modernist and me a classic? :D I'm just kidding, but I remain fully open to the fact that there will be new 'classics'.

Also, when you have to pay a mortgage/rent, you come to realise that there's a premium associated with space. My OH and I are just about to move house - we could have got a 2 bed flat for an extra £125/mth, but we don't need 2 beds - I don't want to be one of these poor folk who buys/rents a bigger home than they need and then proceeds to fill the empty space with stuff, that I'll have to work longer and harder to buy.

I guess all I'm trying to say is that you can't take it with you and (for me), stuff does not bring that much happiness. Still, each to their own :)
