    Realtek ain't a problem, they have XP drivers for all their hardware

    Soundcard drivers is it?

    No - soundcard seems Ok - it's their RTL81xx PCI-E NIC, plus the video controller and two other unknown devices.

    I guess what I need to do now is to download and use EasyBCD to fix the bootloader so that I can get Win 7 running again and then use PCWizard to see exactly what chipsets it has on board - the Dell "detailed specification" is useless in that respect.

    Plenty to get on with tomorrow, then. Thanks again for the suggestions.
