iTunes problem

I need to reinstall the OS on the PC but daughter has 360 itunes songs on there. Is there an easy way to save these as she reckons its gonna take about 15 CD's to put them on?!

  • You can write them to a CD as mp3s rather than music CDs (i.e. ones you can play in a CD player), they should all fit onto one CD, maybe 2.
  • Really? She tells me she needs to keep the original file or she will lose them or they won't work again? I know there are anomolies with itunes files but I have no experience with them hence why I ask.

She will need the original files, why not burn them to DVD instead?

Alternatively, just don't bother reinstalling that POS known as iTunes - there are plenty of alternatives out there that will let her copy the data from her iPod (or whatever) back to the computer without trying to delete it.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
if the files were bought through itunes you will find them in the Music folder path: Music> iTunes> iTunes Media> Music
copying them to a CD/DVD, usb key or external hard drive will save them. (you will also have to backup any Apps or other media you have bought/have in the same way)

what you do next depends if they have DRM on them, if they do then you would have to deactivate itunes before you reset the computer
then after you have reinstalled itunes add the files into itunes activate itunes then thats it.
if they dont have DRM then still deactivate itunes (if it wont let you then it wasnt activated) then just add the files back into itunes after the reset, no need to reactivate itunes

there should be no need to burn the files to audio CD, but if they did have DRM burning then to an Audio CD then re ripping to your computer would remove the DRM and allow you to use the files on any device (not just on an ipod)

Copy iTunes folder and any other folder with the music files in to an external HDD, then copy back when you have reinstalled OS
It said on the box requires Windows 7 or better, so I bought a MAC
