I myself am not pregnant, but would like to be in the future.
Just thought it would be nice to have a thread to yourselves, where you can discuss freely about being overweight and pregnant.
When i conceive i will more than likely still be overweight so would love to read about other peoples experiences both good and bad.

Hi there,
i am overweight and pregnant, I'm 13+1 today. I've had very little morning sickness but my appetite has massively reduced. In addition to this I am also eating waaaaaaaaaaaay better than I was prior to getting pregnant (I was two weeks into a diet and very determined to stick to it when I got my BFP) because I know that it's not just myself that my bad habits affect anymore.
My midwife has advised that I should be looking to weigh the same as I did at the start of January when I am full term. So far I have lost 22lbs, not through dieting as such but just eating sensible portion sizes and making sure I'm getting my five a day. Simple as that. I'm hoping that this loss will stand me in good stead for any gain later in my pregnancy.
Good luck with the ttc!! x0 -

Congratulations on the pregnancy leandygandy and Wow a 22lbs (healthy) weight loss while pregnant is some going

Not pregnant now, but was overweight when pregnant with DS2 - The result was gestational diabetes, which put not only my health at risk but my babies.BTW I was "only" a size 14 -16 when I concieved, so not massive by a lot of peoples standards.
Being told that I has a 50 % chance of remaining diabetic or developing type 2 diabetes within 5 years was the wake up call I needed.
By the time I concieved DS3 I was a size 10 and did everything to ensure that I stayed healthy and didn't use pregnancy as an excuse to get fat. It took me 5 years and 2 attempts at IVF to conceive him and I was determined to do everything that I could to remain as healthy as possible.0 -
WOW! nottslass you did so well loosing weight! im a size 24 but want to get down to a size 18 before i conceive which i know is high but ive never been a small size and was most happiest when i was a size 16, so as long as i eat healthy and start doing exercise i cant see much wrong with it

I was overweight when I fell pregnant with both of mine - prob around a size 16/18. I didn't really give the being overweight side of it much thought TBH. One thing I did notice, though, was that due to not drinking, eating healthily to ensure the baby got good nutrition, and the additional calorie needs from being pregnant, I didn't put much weight on during my pregnancies apart from the baby bump itself. Was back in pre pregnancy clothes within a week or two of giving birth.0

i am fat!
size 30/32 clothes and 23 stone... i had babies last may and the previous march 2009 also have an 18 year old lad.
it took us 6 years to conceive 2nd then they came along like buses :rotfl:
when i fell pregnant in 2009 the midwife informed me i would receive "extra care" on top of what pregnant ladies usually have but somehow fell through the system and didnt get it. midwife told me i was well within my rights to complain about my care, but i didn`t.
throughout my pregnancies nobody could ever find a cuff to fit my arms to take my blood pressure and when they did the electronic machine conked out every single time. my midwife just used the old fashioned pump thingy up and listen technique... i lost count of the wasted times i hauled my bum to the doctors surgery and nobody could take my blood pressure  some nurses used a thigh cuff on my ankles in the hospital.
i sailed through pregnancy till about 7 months when i got awful spd and was reduced to tears to walk so lived upstairs near the toilet for 2 months
i was induced a few days early due to high blood pressure.
some old cowbag nurse at the hospital came over to me and in her exact words said "you are very overweight! how are you going to cope with a baby?:mad: she was just damn rude, my other half said he couldn`t believe she had just said that. i replyed same as any other mum and probably be alot better mother than all the 16/17 year olds that fall pregnant with no father in sight, at least my baby was coming home to a loving steady enviroment!
my pregnancy last year was pretty much the same, i found that the lady in the scan room couldn`t be bothered to look for the sex cos i was so fat . towards the end they found out baby was transverse so spent last week in hospital as they needed to watch me closely.
during both pregnancies i stayed the same weight and wore my normal clothes that i wear loose anyway.
life is hectic noisy and smelly now and a never ending run of nappies and bottles of milk but i love love love my kids and my life and i wouldn`t have it any other way :j i am tired at the end of the day...but you show me a mum with 2 kids under 2 that isnt!
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!

I was overweight with all three of my pregnancies and if the statistics are anything to go by, I should probably at least be dead by now. No trouble conceiving (all three were careless no condom moments!), and was lucky in that my midwife was never judgemental. I was put under a consultant as a result of my weight but on all three, I was seen once at 12 weeks and told to come back if I had a problem - never did. No blood pressure problems (if anything it was low), no gestational diabetes, no spd. All three born naturally, in hospital, at term. My only issue was the dreadful morning sickness which lasted all day, ever day with all three of them but small price to pay really and had nothing at all to do with my weight.
Good luck with it - eat well, cut out the alcohol and walk everywhere!0
