To All Barclaycard Owners (0% balance transfers)

I did this last year by mistake (but may benefit some of you)...

I had a Barclaycard with a £2000 limit and a stupid interest rate of like 29% (as the 0% was up).

I got this paid off and phoned up to cancel. They offered me 6 months fixed rate of 6.9% to stay with a max limit of £2000. I said no and cancelled.

I forgot about it.

3 months later i re-applied as a new Barclaycard customer. I got accepted straight away. The documents in the post came through and found out i had an £8000 limit with a 15 month 0% balance transfer.

I couldnt believe it. All my remaining debt has been put on this card and is now nearly clear. Im really happy with it. Looking at the other deals online 1) i wouldnt have been able to get a high limit and 2) the balance transfer 0% would have been much shorter.

Just thought id mention it and see what people thought...also any other way to get nice little deals like this would be good if anyone else has more experience.

I rang BC to cancel a platinum account. Was offered LOB and said no - eventually got 0% for 12 months.

Yes, it would appear from a number of anecdotes on the MSE forum and the products that they are promoting at the moment that Barclaycard have recently started going in the opposite direction from their traditional style over recent years.

They used to be known as the provider that gave the lowest limits and now they appear to giving some of the highest credit limits and being very flexible when people ask for deals.

I had a card with them a couple of years ago that had a useless limit and high interest rate so I cancelled it and wasn’t given any inducements to stay, but with card number two I got an initial limit of £6k that then went up to £9k within months of opening, 15 months on 0% BTs and now a renewed offer of a further 13 months 0% BT.

I’m sure somebody will be paying for this generosity somewhere or sometime along the line, but it won’t be me.
  • I've had barclaycard platinum for many years but not used it for quite a while so tried asking for a cheap balance transfer offer 1 month ago but nothing other than 6.9% lob so cancelled and sadly no efforts to keep me - I will keep an eye on their latest offers and fully intend to re-apply eventually but assumed I would have to wait a bit longer than 3 months so any more info on this would be much appreciated.

According to http://www.stoozing.com/cards.php it's a 6 month window for re-applying. Be patient and I hope it works out well.
