Driving with No Insurance-Advice

Hi I was pulled over by the police on Friday night for having no insurance.

The genuine story is that I cancelled my insurance with my existing provider due to high premiums, and then due to extreme stress (Which I visted the doctor about) I genuinely forgot to renew it. It was just over a month lapsed.

I always abide by the law and have never forgotten before.

I was issued with a £200 fine (Q142) and 6 points on my licence (pending) . I presume this is an IN10 ??

My vehicle was seized and I had to pay a £170 fee to collect it (the police said it would be £150)

I am 25 years old, and already have 3 points for an SP30 speeding offence. This will now make it a total of 9

Is there anything i can do???

My insurer has quadrupled my premiums!!!! sad.gif

I would say no .. but thats just opinion
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)

Where I live you would also have had a mandatory 12 month suspension for driving without insurance, so IMO your penalty is modest!

Two options - pay the premium or sell the car. I would suspect it will be very difficult to find another insurer at least until some time has elapsed from the suspension.

Going forwards I would also suggest that you put a diary note in whatever calendar you have on your PC/phone etc for one month before renewal date so you don't forget.

There is nothing you can do. It was your responsibility to ensure the car was insured before driving it. No legal loopholes that i am aware would get you off.

Same as the others have said really.
The penalties do not seem overly harsh to me (sorry).

So you either have to pay or consider other transport options.
You have to declare convictions for 5 years but it might improve with time.

Again use some sort of system for important dates.
This can be whatever you chose - diary, spreadsheet.
I keep all mine in a spreasheet for insurance, savings, motor etc. then I know what's coming up, also helps me budget.
Quotes are often valid for a month, so I start shopping around one month before (and always keep some records of cancellation).

Nothing you can do, you need to decide whether you keep the car and find cheapest quote o sell it and use another route to work so use the bus, walk if possible or maybe car share either 1 way with a friend who can drop you off or a work colleague but offer to pay some towards petrol

Crikey, I'd have thought this was pretty clear cut - every last piece of driving documentation reinforces that you do not drive without insurance. Ever. In some ways you're unfortunate the new laws on having your car insured at all times (or declared SORN) haven't come in yet - you'd have received a threatening letter telling you your car was going to be towed from your property by now! That would surely have spurred you into action!

You don't have to stay with them - see if a local broker can find an insurer specialising in "difficult" cases like yours with a cheaper premium.

No sympathy at all, just glad you didn't run into me or any of my family.
