Post/packing when you also work 9-5

Does anyone have any suggestions for post/packing and shipping of large items when you also hold down a 9-5 job?

And how they structure their time/day.

Most of my items will likely be via courier so Im wondering how I can get my items out as soon as possible when Im unable to be around during day. And no I dont have anyone I can farm the post/packing out to.

Cheers,
steve

You can save all your posting till Saturday.

A lot of people write in their ads that posting will be done once a week and that goods will be sent on the first saturday (or whatever day) after fund clearence.
  • If you use parcel2go they collect from your works address. Costs around £10 a parcel for next day delivery so for large items it's quite competitive.

What about dropping the items off at the courier's office yourself?

I mainly post smaller items, but there is a Post Office on the way to work so I tend to stop off there before 9 a couple of times a week.

As I drive and am passing that way anyway, it saves me carrying parcels into work and then queueing up in my lunch hour.
  • I work 7 till 6 every day. But i still find time to ship any items i sell. I usually nip out to the local postoffices (choice of about 3 near where i work) during my lunchbreak and post things off then. I package them up over night. Anything really really big, then i can arrange the courior to pick up from my work place, or arrange to leave the item with a friend and have the courrior pick it up from there.
  • last time we used them two days late on pickup and left on the van for a week for delivery.

The local sorting offices (where you pick up undelivered parcels) often open early and/or close late so you can take your parcel there to post.

Some of the couriers are open from 8 or shut at 6, and ,most will collect from your workplace.

Like a previous poster said, many people either go at lunchtime or on a saturday. Just keep your buyers updated with the progress.

have you thought about slipping the items into works postal system, free posting every now and then, no need to go to post office, win win situation
    wink wink
  • thanks for suggestions ....

for those interested .......... Im in a new job ... so dont feel its approp to use work mail..

and I use public transport for hour each way and the parcels can be suitcase size ...so taking to work to drop off lunchtime not very practical

and dont have car .... and thankfully no parking tickets ..

Why not arrange your end day to tie in with the weekend?

    or

Why not get a shed or something that you can sort out with a courier company with a key?

I have always found large items to be a pain for posting need to be so much more organised.

    Good luck

how about not bothering!!icon12.gif as you are refusing everyones suggestions! is the amount you are getting suficent enough to justify you packing the items in the evening and doing what someone else suggested ...posting on Saturday? how do you find time to list things? and how do you think eveyone else manages?

I have a job, family (including 2 year old) and I find time to do it all and go to the gym etcicon6.gif!! you just need to sort out a routine, perhaps parcel the items when you are listing them label them and arrange for neighbours or friends to take them for you? haven't you got a local PO? usually they close @ 5:30 ....otherwise icon13.gificon13.gif
