Hi
I was after some advice if possible, have got damp in my front room and looking at it there are a few reasons this to be the case, it seems the brick work close to the first floor bedroom is moving outways every so slightly. Also it looks like the brickwork on the front needs some pointing and the guttering is a problem aswell. Now the issue is i wont be able to claim on the buildings insurance or will i for wear and tear. When we moved in the surveyor said that the brickwork had moved ever so slightly in the last 10 years and it shouldnt move that much more.
But i really think with the damp etc that it needs done asap but we are just a 1 kid family with a very tight income and not sure how much its going to cost, so wondered if we could claim on our buildings insurance as we have never claimed on it in 10 years of taking it out.
Any advice on the matter would be great, as dont want to submit a claim only to find it wont cover us for any of the things that need done, even if we could claim on 1, the wall coming away.
Many thanks again.

Insurance is there to cover sudden and unforeseen events, such as storm damage or fire. It is very unlikely to cover the incident that you have outlined unless it is down to subsidence (and there is likely to be a huge excess (first amount you have to pay) if this is the case).
Seems as if it is a maintenance issue - have you had advice as to the cause from a reputable builder?0 -
What type of wall is it- solid brick or cavity wall? How old is the house?0
