Bad experience of buying first home

Thanks so much for your kind replies, I really appreciate it.
It helps to know that people are supportive, even if we don't know eachother in real life! It's a hard thing to talk about to people who have never experienced this type of thing. They don't understand.
But I agree, health and happiness are priceless. I will think twice about buying again, I was very cautious this time believe it or not! I didn't go to my maximum limit as I thought I was being sensible. Next time I will stalk a house out to make sure the neighbours are ok!0 -
I really feel for you as I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago, but as they were council tenants, the council did help me up to a point but I obviously wasn't the only person they upset as they had there car vandalised and the final straw for them was having there front windows smashed in, so they moved of there own accord.
For piece of mind if you can afford to move and take the loss then do it. I had friends who had awful neighbours and did just that after spending a small fortune doing up the house. They were totally upfront and honest about the situation to the buyers who loved the house so much, decided to buy and take the neighbours to court to get rid.
I am afraid you will have to be honest about your neighbours when selling otherwise you could get taken to court and sued if you don't, which will probably mean you will have to drop the price even further to sell. Afterall you will get questioned as to why you want to move after 9 months.0 -

How would they find out how long she has been there for? I mean that genuinely as the house we are buying is empty and I haven't seen any mention of when they moved in/moved out as of yet. Is it something that is on the documentation?
That aside, surely she (sorry to refer to you like that, OP!) does not have to say why she is moving and plead ignorant about the neighbours...it could be to find something bigger/smaller/nearer to somewhere.....?0 -

You can check online for free when the sale price and date of houses.
It would be one of my first checks before even booking an appointment to see a place. Plus seeing how many houses have changed ownership in the road tself gives you an insight into the type of road it may be.0 -
Ps. I know I sound older than my age here but I'm not even 30 yet!
Lol. I had this same conversation over an incident with my neighbours...I found my self resorting to saying "when I was a teenager there is no way I would have got away with that"...and that was when I was 23!
I know how soul destroying it can be. We bought our first house in 2006 and we viewed the property 5 times in total before completion and didn't see or hear a peep. Within 2 weeks of moving in there were groups of between 5-10 teenagers hanging about on the front, drinking. smoking and kicking footballs at houses. Fortunately our neighbour only has one son but even when he wasn't out his mates would still insist on hanging round out side. Thankfully this has calmed down now as they are mostly 18 and have started going to the pub instead! But on a daily basis I still have to contend with music blasting through the walls.
I would say take the loss and walk away now. I wanted to do it about 3 years ago and we are only just going for it now. It has been a depressing three years for me and if I could do it again we would have put the house on the market much sooner.
As for viewings try to make a note of their comings/goings and times they make a lot of noise and avoid these for potential viewings. Sounds deceitful in someways but it may need to be done to avoid potential buyers being put off by them0 -
Don't think I could be taken to court Miss Poppy. I asked a friend high up in the legal world and they said I would not have to declare unless a noise abatement order had been served...
On why I'm moving. Actually my reason is that I moved jobs and now earn more and can afford a bigger house in a good area. I didn't know I was going to get another job at the time of buying - I wish I had've waited as now I wouldn't be in this mess.
Saying that people have neighbour problems in any area, good or bad, unfortunately there are no guarantees. From your way of thinking I could take the woman who sold me the house to court but noise affects different people in different ways, perhaps it didn't bother her in the same way.. perhaps not.. we'll never know..
Madmish, back in my day the police would've come in and bashed your stereo/kareoke machine etc to hell! Those were the days...0 -

For future use, where can I find this out please?
I know you can buy title deeds for about £20 online but only for 1 house, not the entire street.0 -

As has already been stated it is very easy to find out when the OP bought the house on sites such as rightmove.
She can plead ignorant to the neighbours but if there is an official account anywhere of her complaint such as the police or council and the buyers find out she could easily be sued for the purchase price of the house. I have heard a few stories of this happening and was also tempted to investigate this option when I purchased and found I had neighbours from hell.0 -
maybe she should sue the old seller then if a complaint was put in by last neighbour?0
