Skiing in France (chamonix) at Easter - what do you think

We're debating booking a last minute trip ski trip for Easter 9th April.

We wanted to go to France as we can drive which will be much cheaper and easier with the kids.

Looking for a quiet resort with a range of runs (2 of us need green/blue the others can cope with red/black) with snow conditions suitable for a nervous skier (that'll be me).

I've been looking at the snow reports and webcams but need some more help. What is snow generally like this late in the season? Can you recommend a resort likely to have decent conditions?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks I've had a look it is high but reported as cold (ie north facing) and busy - is that your experience? Also looking at Puy St Vincent - any views on there as a resort?

Been skiing in France lots at Easter. With Easter being so late I would be very surprised if it was busy - the French don't ski en masse in April.
You'll probably get good skiing til 2-2.30 then it'll be sorbet but still worth going. I like Alpe D'Huez (Vaujany is easy to drive to). You could also stay in Bride les Bains and bubble up to Meribel every day. My favourite area is Portes des Soleil - Morzine Avoriaz - Avoriaz quite high good runs. Bonne ski.

High and north-facing is what you need to ski in April. I wouldn't count on Chamonix - was not great when I was there in mid-March last year. As others have said, I would look at Val Thorens or Avoriaz. Look at Tignes too.

It shouldn't be too cold (ski report last night saying it's very mild in the Alps at the moment) and at this time of year you usually can't have both sunny slopes and good snow as barginunter says by 2pm (ish) it starts to get very slushy but first thing - frozen solid.
