Just a quick update on the situation with my underpaid tax.
HMRC did not uphold my complaint.
With regard to me being told everything was okay with my tax their answer was 'it was okay at the time I spoke to their advisor' I was then told the reason I had an underpayment was because my pension provider operated the wrong code. HMRC sent a new code to them in October 2010 to be operated on a cumulative basis but the pension provider operated the code on a week 1 month 1 basis - so therefore failed to collect the back tax. My pension provider is looking at this as they say they would not have operated a different code from the one issued.0 -
Hi All,
Ok First Post and just wondered if you guys could tell me if you think I have a chance to claim.
June 2011 I was given a company car by my work but the tax man was never told. I was a naive 20 year old so just presumed it was all sorted.
August 2012 I get a letter saying I owe something to the tune of £400 and that they were changing my Tax Code to a correct one taking into account my company car benefit....Ok, at this point I am just paying correct tax, not repaying.
I then get another letter this year saying I now owe £600 they are changing my tax code again so I can start paying it off.
Can I claim this? I've been reading all sorts on the HMRC website and this bit particular sparks my interest
" Employers don't have to tell HMRC about any company benefits you get until the end of the tax year, unless it's a company car. "
Surely my company should have told them?0 -
Hi , Not sure if its the right place to ask .. We have been asked to pay back 11000 in 2014 as our Umbrella company sunday solutions did not pay HMRC and they got bankrupted and stole a lot of money from the contractors . We knew the company went bust and stole through the court proceeding letters we received in 2011 and 2012 but we did not have any knowledge that if they paid our tax or not as we had no contact from them . Hmrc is now asking us to pay it to them . I may have mixed up the dates .. in this scenario what can we do . we tried calling them and involve our accountant but Hmrc says we have to pay .Accountant is not of much help either .. I have seen on this forum and others there could be a possibility if we write them up . I just need to know the guidance how should we start this up and what clause I can use . there is interest added on the sum as well for all the years even though we have only been informed in 2014 . they have given us 200 a month for 3 months as we told them we can't afford . any help or advice will be great . thanks .0
