SORN - car insurance still required?

Hi,
Hope I'm posting this in the right place.
I have delcared my car SORN, when I called to let my insuarnce company know they said I should continue to pay the policy. Which is fine as I still have to be covered for fire and theft, but as I am fully comp surely my policy should be amended as I won't actually be driving the car? It will be stored in a friend's garage. I do plan the sell the car, however I am due a baby in a couple of weeks so it's not a good time and as the tax was up end Feb this is the reason I declared it SORN (2 seater convertible not ideal with a small child either!)
Any help appreciated

You could amend the policy to TPFT but if your insurance company charges for policy changes then it might well be cheaper just to let it run as is. I would have thought they would want to know about the change in where it is kept too.0

Ideally you would want it changed to "laid up" cover i.e. it's covered for theft and fire but not for driving.
However there is no guarantee that the policy you have offers this option. I don't belive it's an automatic right.
If that option isn't available then you could cancel the policy and take out a new "laid up" policy but naturally there will be cancellation fees.
You also would lose any partical NCD you have gained this year.
Your first step is to ask them what you options are, then find out the cost before doing anything.
It may simply be cheaper just to let the policy run and get a years NCD, but you need to assess the other options and the cancellation/amendment fees.
We can't tell you what the options are with your policy or your broker/insurer, you need to ask them.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I did call my insurance company today in the hope they could advise me but the guy didn't seem to know anything, put me on hold for about 15 seconds while he spoke to his manager. So I will call again tomorrow after I've read my policy docs and try and get some better advice.0
