Camper van check query

Have looked at a transit camper today that we're really interested in. Have just put the reg into mycarcheck and it has come up as a blue transit panel van, not a camper with a coach built back.
No record of colour change etc.
Could someone explain the implications of this please
Sorry CAMPER van

Is it a recognised conversion?
What does it state on the V5?
The are problems geting insurance if it's a diy conversion, but it's not impossible.
It the V5 is wrong, it can be changed, colour is easy, but the body is harder to rectify, depends on the mood of the dvla at the time.
It may or may not be rejected at the MOT, again it depends on the examiner if the body style is wrong.0 -
Thanks for the reply. The seller (trade) says that the back was put on the chassis of the van as the original camper chassis was shot. He only mentioned this after we questioned the mycarcheck report. He says that he will get the logbook changed when we buy it. He implied this would be no problem. It has an MOT, but don't know if this was done after the conversion or not.
Is the worst case scenario, we buy it, he amends v5 dvla reject it, rejected when we take it for its next mot, left with valueless vehicle?0 -

Depends on the dvla.
It should have an unaltered chassis, or bodyshell, plus two other major mechanical items.
The chassis will be a panel van chassis, but it needs to be registered as a motorhome.
The make of mine is motor caravan, and no model, the dvla don't like changing that normally.
One MOT examiner may be ok, others may not be.
It isn't a "known" make, it'll always be a diy conversion, so insurance is harder to obtain, as it moves to a specialist area.
Get him to change the V5 before you part with any money.0 -

thanks all , the best thing to do seems to be to wait for the dealer to change the logbook. I'm now happy the vehicle is legal.0

I would approach this with caution, to just swap chasis and not say anything and not inform the dvla seems pretty dodgy. Like you have said wait until he has got it changed if you want to buy it, i would pay no money not even a deposit until this is done. If you dont mind me asking whats the value of the camper?0

How do you know it's legal?
edit - you mean legal as not stolen etc, not legal as happy with the dvla?0 -
there are plenty of good transit based conversions by camper van manufacturers, i would get this one thoroughly checked and a fully amended v5Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0
