I mislaid my debit card and reported it lost on 11/3/11, I was told that the card would be cancelled and a new one issued, I telephoned the bank (Smile)yesterday to find out how long would I have to wait for a new card and was told that a new card hadn't been ordered as there was a "marker on my account" and was i aware of this. I explained yes I am aware as I have had a few financail difficulties of late, I also said that as the debit card is the only way I can access money from my bank account, why was I not told when I reported the card as lost that a new one wouldn't be issued.
My salary is paid into my bank account tomorrow and I have no means of accessing my money, what the hell am I supposed to do, I've been told that it could take 7 days to issue a new card,
Are the banks allowed to stop me from accessing my money even tho' my credit problems are not with them, I do not have a cheque book or a credit card and I cant go into the nearest branch is in the town centre and I work full time, to be honest I haven't got the money for bus fare or parking. Any help or advise would be greatly received

They can issue you with a cashpoint only card.
Can they not authorise you to cash at a branch of the coop?
If not you need to transfer your account that has branches!0 -
Thank you for your reply. They did offer to let me draw money from the local branch but as I said I can't get to the nearest branch as the only branch is in the city centre and due to work commitments I cant get there. The debit card is also a cash point card and it will take upto seven days to be reissued.
The question I was trying to ask is did the bank have any right in cutting of the only means I have off accessing my money without my knowledge citing my current financial situation as the reason for it.0 -
Turn that round - why open an account whereby anything goes wrong and you are stuck?
They have given you an alternative - use it or borrow from friends and family.0 -

Moving forward, could you not use online banking to transfer some money to a friend/family member's account and ask them to withdraw the money for you?
Otherwise they've offered a method of accessing the money which you've refused. If you need the money, then you will need to make arrangements to get to a branch!0 -
Ask them in you can have a card beginning 4508, they should let you have one of those.0
