Hi, I'm off to Kingston Upon Thames for a university open day this weekend. I'll be getting the train from Waterloo station to Kingston, does anybody know if it's possible to use a oyster card for this journey? or do I need to buy tickets?
Thanks

Make sure you touch in and out as the oyster readers are not always obvious on some of the rail stations, if you don't touch out you can get charged the most expensive possible fare.

    Kingston is a lovely place.

Both Waterloo and Kingston have ticket barriers, although if they're open, and assuming you're using Prepay credit, make sure you don't forget to touch out otherwise TfL will charge you tyhe maximum fare!

    Fares finder here:

    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/tickets/faresandtickets/farefinder/current/

The Oyster fare is £5.20 at peak time (M-F 0630-0930 & 1600-1900) and £3.20 at any time.

Oyster charges are on a zonal basis (although it's slightly more complicated than that, as you can in some cases be charged extra for mixing 'modes') so a journey from, one side of London to the other may in fact cost the same as just central London to one side of London.
