understanding bills? help!

Hi all, have just received 2 letters, one re gas one re electric, saying i need to inic my direct debit which I'm sure I do, however, tried reading own meter and number is wrong length for either!! Any ideas?

    Current direct debits based on estimates, meter readers always turn up at awkward times and havent been able to get through to arrange a time that suits

    Ignore any red digits, numbers after any decimal point and any 1/10ths or 1/100ths.

    Number too short not too long, but thanks for tips anyway.

    In that case, add in zeros at the start to make it the correct length.
