One card better than two?

in Credit cards
My partner has had a Barclaycard for approx 5 years now and uses it intermittantly, paying off the full balance each month or certainly within two months.
Last year he got an additional Tesco credit card to enable an expensive item purchase. This has now been paid off, but uses the card in Tesco etc to obtain the clubcard points it is tied in with. Again the balance is always paid in full each month.
Neither card is near the max limit and we wonder whether it is better to get rid and have one card only. In terms of credit ratings will it be frowned upon to be getting rid, or better to have and manage two, even just for day to day purchases?
He doesnt like having multiple accounts, cards etc and would prefer just the one (90% of the time he likes to use debit card/cash), but is mindful of the future and wanting to obtain a mortgage.
Any advice would be appreciated.:j

Two doesn't necessarily improve your credit rating, but it does give you options - promotional deals, some where to BT to if rate increase on the other card, a back up for when you lose the other card, an emergency card for when the other lender lowers your limit to a fiver and so on.
I'd keep it.0
