Saving up for wedding

Hi,

I've just got engaged and was given £100 from my mum and dad to start a wedding fund. I don't just want to put it into my account as it will slowly disappear. I want to set up a joint account for me and my fiancee to add into as and when we have spare cash. I don't know where to start looking, can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks :)

Would setting up an ISA be a good idea? That would have to be just in your name, and I can see that a joint account would be nicer.

If you are in credit then I would go with a bank or building society you already have an account with - less ID hassle.

If you are not in credit, then go with a different one. Maybe one it is hard for you to get to to avoid temptation with withdrawals.

The papers have the best interest rate charts.

Maybe premium bonds if you fancy a gamble?
  • How far off is the wedding? I think an ISA is a good idea.

    First things first...
Are you sure your fiancee has good credit rating? Because the moment you opened anything joint his rating will reflect your rating - and vice versa. So just be carefull.

Otherwise - open the account wherever you want - with your bank if you are happy with their service, his bank if he is happy with their service or just look at best available saving accounts (depending on how far of is the wedding, what kind of access to it do you want - notice or not and whether you are going to pay in regularly...

The wedding will be next summer, although we don't have a date yet!
We need an account that can be added to easily and I suppose we need to be able to withdraw easily too when we have to start paying for stuff.
Thanks for the tips! Think I'm off to the wedding forum pages...
