Any idea's for keeping stuff off the floor?

Can anyone help me with a 'make-do' idea to keep stuff off the floor to keep it dry please?
I live in a small flat and have a very large cupboard, and as we all know a bit of space is soon filled!
In the top of the cupboard is a small water tank. In the last 4 yrs, for no known reason (plumbers) it has leaked when I have been away from home more than a few days at a time
Its obviously something to do with not using it.
Normally in this cupboard I keep suitcases, the Vax washer, odd bits of tinned paint, flower vases, summer fan, dehumidifier etc:
In the past I have kept boxed things, come home and the boxes are so damaged I've had to throw out the items.
I did think of a wooden or plastic pallet to raise the stuff off the floor, but can't seem to find anywhere to buy just the one  and they are expensive.
Does anyone have any idea of what I could use cheap/free, or where I can buy a reasonably priced single pallet please?
Thanks in advance
LL

I suspect that the ball valve is not quite closing properly and allows a slow drip. No problem when you're at home using water... overflows when you aren't. Even if the tank is fitted with an overflow pipe it may be that the joint through the tank has a leak.

If you pop across to In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving they'll be able to help you out with this.

I'll let the OS regulars deal with the rest of your post :)

I'd get a couple of £1 bowls upturned, or £1 dish drainers upside down http://product-images.paidonresults.net/1/978931-200x200.jpg

    A free idea... :)

If your flat is rented - see your landlord about having this fixed. It's not only soaking your clothing etc. it's making the cupboard damp and long term will cost a lot more to fix if it's not sorted.

If rented, and IF you get no joy, we have a board about house renting that can help you.

We've got everything here on MSE :)

If things only need to be raised a little, I would make a rack by tying bamboo sticks together with string.

I have a board outside the shower to step out onto, it's like a little wooden pallet about 2'x2'.
Can't remember where we got it, check out bathroom shops, but it would be simple to make with wood inch x half inch and a tube of supaglue

I agree with Squeaky, much better to get the root problem fixed than spend money on work-arounds. Besides, if the drip is from above where you keep your stuff then presumably it is dripping down onto your stored things, and water + electricity (e.g. your electric fan) is not a good combination.

If there is some reason this is not possible (although I can't imagine why), then how about some of those very large plastic lidded boxes that you can get from any DIY store (to keep your stuff IN, not to put it ON).
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D
