BT Caller Display charge

Due to an oversight on my part I only made 5 chargeable calls (3 of which were free anyway as they were made on a weekend) in my last billing period so I've been charged £8.10 for Caller Display. Is there any possibility that BT would consider waiving this charge? I will remember to make at least 6 calls in the next period but it's annoying to be charged for something when making another call that costs nothing would have avoided it.

Putting a reminder in your diary to make two 10 second calls one weekend each month (so they're 'free') to one of the below geographical numbers for the Speaking Clock will overcome the problem:

020 7043 1320 or
01798 808111 or
0131 550 0892 or
01923 287748 or
024 7629 5000

I have recently started sending an email to nudgemail.com with the specific date* as the address whenever I need such a reminder.

* e.g. 29January@nudgemail.com
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz, I saw your suggestion on another thread so I'll definitely do that from now on. Do you think asking for a refund is a lost cause?

I am a bit unclear on the requirement for free caller display. does One just needs to make 6 calls per quarter to get free caller display or you need to make 6 chargeable calls? If it matters, i am thinking of taking their anytime or evening & weekend calls package? If i take anytime pacakge how does taht work in terms of making 6 calls. Can these be inclusive calls or they have to chargeable?

It can be any 6 calls, inclusive or not (i.e. regardless of whether you actually have to pay for them). Strangely though, freephone calls don't count.

I just got stung for this charge.

Since my new mobile contract has a free calls allowance, I have hardly used my landline - I assumed I was being thrifty by not doing so.
• Same here. I have a nice old-fashioned phone and I don't use BT for my calls. They also stung me on the line rental saver package, meaning I now don't save at all.

This is an obvious scam. BT are one of those low companies that I always hate dealing with. Never ever ever again.

I'm Complaining to Ofcom as we speak.

I'm thinking of taking the unlimited package with line rental saver and I'd be interested to know how you got stung for the line rental.

Why? The requirement to make the necessary 6 calls is well documented, as is the penalty for not doing so.
On what possible basis do you think OFCOM would be interested unless you've already gone through the dispute procedure with BT?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

BT line rental saver offer requires you to make 2 calls a month or 6 a quarter otherwise you get a penalty of £1.50 a month £4.50 a quarter. If your on unlimited call plan the inclusive calls count towards the minimum calls required.

ditch BT, they are the worst communications company going. There is no justification whatsoever for charging for Caller Display, it costs them nothing to provision. Mobile Phone companies have been providing it free of charge for well over a decade. BT's billing methods are the most complicated on the planet and has got even worse still in recent years. Granted all this is well documented and you should be well aware of what your signing upto but there are better providers out there.
