    Received the mail.
Pressed on 'Reply' and sent them the following:
    Hi there,

'a company that handles part of our marketing communications has had a
security breach' .....' this issue has occurred outside of Play.com'

Please explain how does the above works - in my opinion the two
    sentences are contradictory!
    Thank you,
    sofa_surfer.

Received the following back (instead of So And So they have pulled out my real name ) :
    Dear So And So,

    Thank you for your email.

We appreciate your time and effort to let us know about the suspicious emails your received.

We apologize for the inconvenience but as of the moment we are in the process of investigating this issue. Please forward us the suspicious email you received at privacy@play.com. Rest assured that your account with us is safe and that no information has been compromised.

Play.com will never email you and ask you to disclose or verify your play.com password or credit card details. If you receive a suspicious email containing links to update your Play.com account,
please ignore the email and report this matter to Play.com for further investigation.

Again, accept our apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you and thank you for your understanding.

    Kind regards,

    Customer Support Team

it would be good if play.com told us the extent of the emails downloaded is it just A-C or the whole lot of them.

as of now I havent had any increase of spam, I suspect that gmail will do it's normal thing and catch it all, but before christmas I had some very suspisious spam of which gmail failed to catch (it was of the order of about 10 emails an hour 9/10 of them went to my inbox) luckily it completely stopped after 24 hrs.

as always the rules of spam apply for thoses who don't know
    1. never reply to spam email!!!!
    2. never click on any link inside a spam message
    3. never choose the option to 'display images' of the spam email in your email client (webmail or program)
    4. never do what a spam email says!!! (ie go to a named/linked site and log in using the username and password in the email)
also any junk you get into your inbox press the 'mark it as junk button of your email client/webmail.

Oh dear, I too received this email from Play. Now I've just received a similar one from M&S. This is getting ridiculous.

This may not be related at all,

however I had my paypal hacked this morning, £170 sent to someone..

I've not clicked on any dodgy links etc, all my definitions are up to date etc, but recently I changed my paypal password back to the same one I use for play (with the same email) mainly because I kept forgetting my "safe" paypal password , they've not hacked my email account or anything else..Only thing I can perhaps think of is someones got the play details and trawled through looking for idiots like me using the same credentials?! Sneaky !!!!!!s bombarded me with about 50 other spam emails that hid the paypal transaction email in the middle of them, its only because I noticed the paypal one had my full name on before I deleted it that I realised :(

    I use a different email/pass for M&S btw heh
