Forgotten Passwords

My niece has a Home Access computer (HP Compaq with Windows Vista) and I'm the 'Parent' user for her. The password, which worked previously, is no longer being recognised and I don't have a reset disk. The technical team at the supplier have said the password must have been reset (which it hasn't) and needs to go back to them for the password resetting at a cost of nearly £50, which seems a bit steep. Does anyone know if I can get the password off the computer somehow or if there's any trustworthy software that would help me locate the password. I'll send the computer back if it's the only way but I'm loathe to do that if there's a Techie out there who could point me in the right direction. I have tried to do the full system recovery, as per the guidance that came with the laptop, but it asks for the default Parent password and when you type it in, it says it's not recognised. Any advice would be gratefully received.:)
