Barclaycard application rejected - any thoughts?

Hi,
Wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this - I've just applied for the new Barclaycard Platimum deal and been rejected. Never been turned down for credit before :embarasse
I've checked my Experian account which I keep my eye on and my credit score comes up excellent (although I notice that Barclaycard used Equifax, so I've asked them for my report just in case), but I'm wondering if it's because I already have 3 credit cards and asked them for too large a balance transfer to combine them into one? I thought from their T&Cs that they would offer me a lesser amount if they weren't prepared to offer the full amount I needed, thus allowing me to get at least some of it transferred. Maybe I should have chosen the "provide card details later" option - or maybe it wouldn't have mattered.
Feeling a little foolish (and a little bit sick!). I'm really trying to get these sorted out and would really like to get a 0% card as I've been burying my head in the sand for too long and paying interest that I shouldn't be!

2 questions:
Do you earn more than £20k a year?
Does your current debt = more than 10% of your annual income? (i.e if you earn, for example, £25k a year, do you have more than £2500 outstanding on the 3 cards you mention).
If you answer no to the first and/or yes to the second, then that'll be your reason(s).Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
As above the rough guide is about half your annual income as a credit card(s) limit. So if your current total limits add up to over half that may eb why you didn't get it. You must check the other credfit reference agencies though - I had someone else's credit card on mine!0

Thanks for your help!
I do meet the criteria ie. earn over £20K, have credit accounts for more than 4 years etc., but my debts are more than 10% of my gross salary, however the total amount of my credit limits is at least £5K less than half my salary - so even although I'll still have the same amount of debt, I guess it's just the combination of things. They're probably worried I'm going to go wild in the aisles and not do the 0% transfer to start paying things off like a good girl :-)
The ironic thing is I had worked to pay off, and cancelled a credit card with the Halifax last year which had a £11K limit on it - I'd had it for about 10 years, and when I tried to cancel they transferred me to the customer retentions department to try and keep me (as I'd paid every month without fail), offered me a 5.9% lifetime balance deal, and cut the APR by 5%! Should have kept it and just did a shuffle around my existing cards.......argh! The benefits of hindsight!
Still going to get my report from Equifax, lick my wounds, and think what to do next. Thanks again guys.0 -
I got turned down for this today as well but I can't even get into Equifax to check.
Like you my Experian report came back glowing...Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
It's a bit rubbish when all you're trying to do is sort things out - hey, ho....reap what you sow and all that! Couldn't get my Equifax report straight away either, I'm having to wait for it to come on paper via snail mail.....0

I couldn't even get that far. The website said something about not being able to complete my transaction and gave me a number to call (which I'll do today)Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0

I checked my report on Equifax. The only thing not spot on with it is they don't think I am on the electoral roll and never have been at my current address.
Well, I voted in the last election... While living at this address... I've opened a dispute. Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
Well, after much delay, I finally have my statutory credit report from Equifax - I say credit report, it might as well be blank! All there is on it is the Barclaycard search, and an entry for the electoral roll for my previous address (which I left in 2003). Seems I am not on the electoral roll at my current address, even though I am sitting here at my laptop and can see my polling card for Thursday's Scottish Parliament elections on the pile of mail next to me ;-)
There is absolutely nothing else - no mortgage, loan, utilities, credit cards, NOTHING!!! How can this be? Experian have a perfect list of all my credit accounts and my electoral roll registrations (all attached to my 999 credit score!)
Bizarre - I must have just picked companies in the past that only use Experian. Cue stinking letter to Equifax.....I was mortified by my rejection, now I'm just hopping mad!!:mad::mad::mad:0 -
