Sent back online purchase - can't get a refund.

I'm wondering if I have a leg to stand on in this situation...
I bought a perfume from Scentmall, a company, which had I looked into it, I would have avoided.
The perfume they sent to me was the wrong one (and I believe a fake).
When I called them, they told me to return it and they would send the correct perfume out as soon as they received it.
Of course, they are now claiming they have never received it and won't refund my money or send anything else out until they have.
None of their phone numbers work now either - they only use email.
Unfortunately, I have no proof of postage/tracking number, only the receipt for the airmail packet I sent, as their warehouse is based in Bulgaria! They are probably dodgy and I may have to write this off as a lost cause but I wonder if there is anything I can do?
I also did not use a credit card to pay so I can't get my money back through the card company
Any thoughts apart from avoid using Scentmall ever again?!

How did you pay for it?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
See my own posts on this company - at least you can see how my situation progresses to inform your own choices of what to do.

Hi,
Do a google search for 'a businesses guide to the distance selling regulations' it's a good source of info for consumers on their rights under the DSR's. A trader cannot withhold a refund until you return a product. If you cancel the contract (e.g they sent you the wrong product) then they MUST provide a refund within 30 days of you cancelling the contract.
You can contact Consumer Direct (do a google search for their number) and they will give you more specific advice for your situation. Their website also has template letters that you can use to write to the trader.
Don't give up!

Not sure Bulgarians are too bothered about UK regulations.
Can't you do a charge back or something on debit cards? Assuming that's how you paid.0 -

They could be dodgy, but there's also the possibility that they never received the goods. Our postal system in the UK isn't 100% reliable, and the postal services in other countries can be a whole lot worse. Without tracking & proof of receipt, I don't think you can assume the supplier is at fault."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0
