Housing benefit for one month after starting job

I have been told I can continue claiming housing benefit for one month after starting my new job. How can I go about doing so?

Do I need to notify the benefits office that I now have a job and then ask for the month? Or do I just not tell them until one month into my job?

    Who told you that?

What you do is inform the council that you have a job, they will assess the new claim based on your wages. Anything else is fraud.

    hi

My husband started work last week, we rang everyone up that needed to know the change of circumstances.

The council said that the housing/council tax benefit will run on for a month, giving you time to get wage slips to take to them within that month. They also want to know what tax credits you will/are getting.

is it after being on benefits for more than 6 months?
When i went back to work 7 years ago after being on a benefits for a year i got this, as well as my uniform paid for. something to do with a back to work incentive thing they do. It was a lone parent adviser at the job centre that helped and advised me. But this was 7 years ago and may have changed since then.

I'm not sure as I was on for more than 6 months. But it would seem silly if they didn't allow for someone who's been on the dole for say two weeks, not to be able to have time to get their pay slips in.

Probably worth ringing the council/ job centre up and asking them. The job centre told us that the council tax + house benefits would run on for 1 month as well as the council.

Thanks for that. So the process is that simple?

Oh I don't get tax credits.

I've been on JSA for over 6 months.

    now now hold your horses.

I didn't say anything about committing fraud.

The job centre told me I can claim extended housing benefit.

Yep, well simple so far anyway! Just got to get 2 wage slips and take them in before 16th of april.

I also recommend getting a receipt of taking the wage slips in as I have have had problems in the past with the council saying I hadn't provided them with wage slips.

Oh no, my problem is that I'll only get payslips once a month because it's a salary. I don't think I'll get two payslips in one month.

Do you think my contract should be enough for them? I've already got my contract. They also said they want a letter from the job centre to say my benefits have stopped.

I'm not sure with monthly payments but my friend has said before that they had to send in two (monthly) but sometimes they will except one.

Will you still get the ct and hb ? If you are still entitled then this will be backdated.

    Sorry forgot to say....

In my case the Job centre has told the council that our benefit has stopped.

Also I am not sure about the contract.
