Hi
I know French Television on satellite is having a revamp to digital soon.
I am in a flat with satellite dish set up for sky, but not sure which satellite for certain.
I would like to access free sat and French television - what is the best - and by that I mean cheapest - way to do this?

You would need to know where to point your dish and need a french receiver i should imagine.."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

Ooh la-la, merde, ce n'est pas vrai.
top of google search is this http://www.satellitetveurope.co.uk/allfrench.html. Look also look at digitalspy and avforums for more info. Also there is a(are) site(sites) that tells you which sats and whether the channels are encrypted, but I am not near my home at the mo so I can't post that. I take it you have a dish but no box , there are many boxes (not sky) that can pickup any satellite your dish is pointing at. I have a Humax and can pick up lots of channels that are on the Astra sats at ??28.2E?? .🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI0 -

Not a French one, but a Free to Air one, but the OP is discussing 2 different entities, the French equivalent to our Freeview, which will not be receivable in the UK, and satellite reception, which are completely different beasts.
Digital French transmissions via satellite have been available here for years.0 -
It might be worth using internet TV especially if the purpose is to practice languages.
I have an old laptop on top of the set top box pile under the TV and permanently connected to it, that does this job.0 -
if you want foreign tv, look at getting a satellite box that accepts you to enter what channels are on it, like a Technomate or a Dreambox. Then position your dish to the correct sat, and bobs your uncle.0

Just remember, once you adjust the dish, all Sky/UK Freesat channels will vanish Unless you go for a complicated dual offset LNB solution and a larger dish.0

Depending on where you are located you could probably receive Freesat and french TNTSat channels at 19E orbital position with a 60cm dish and a 9 degree dual lnb adaptor. Otherwise you are going to need a second dish either pointed at 19E to receive TNTSat or 5W to receive Fransat.
However both french options require a separate receiver to decode the signals which are available to buy in France. I've seen the TNTSat boxes in french supermarkets for around €99 and I assume the Fransat boxes would be a similar price.0
