Car Insurance

Anyone on Auto Trader car insurance? I have been with them for the past 3 years. I sold my car yesterday. Rang up today to cancel but discovered I have to pay 'short term rate' which is the penalty cost for cancelling under the 12 months contract. My contract was due to expire in July this year. Been told that from 6 months you are charged 400%. Think this is ridiculous. Is there a way out of this £142 cost? I am now being told I need to pay £142 short term rate & £13.95 cancellation fee = £155 for cancelling my car insurance. Think this is too much. Unfortunately can't find a hard copy of my policy document. Get this.....if I want a copy it is at a cost of £20 - £40. How ridiculous!!!!! Main reason why I sold my car was to try save up money. Quite costly when my husband & I have cars and my husband has a motorbike. I need some advice please!
