I just signed up for a Santander savings account which supposedly comes with instance access.
However, when I log and and can see my balance I can't see any way to withdraw the money !!!
Clicking "Payments" and most other items in the menu gives the error : "There are no valid accounts (Linked to your card) available for this transaction. "
So how to I get my cash out when I need it ?

Has anyone else found the same thing?

  • Most savings accounts these days have to be 'linked' to a current account. Yours isn't, and so you cannot transfer the money anywhere.

Simply link a current account to it, and then you can transfer to and from that account.
  • Thanks for the advice but I see no way of linking an account via the banking screens. Its a good job I checked into this well before I actually need the money!

There was nothing in the application that said I needed to jump through hoops in order to access my funds. Why is it they have multiple methods of depositing funds but (based upon what the previous poster said) require phone calls during working hours and presumably forms to be filled in and sent bank (?) in order to withdraw ?

Did they give you a card? My old Santander ISA had a cashcard which you could use in ATM's (not that I ever tried it).

you need to set up a direct debit/ bill payment to link it to your c/a
  • I click on "direct debits" and get the same error:

    Error code: EBAN_0004

There are no valid accounts (Linked to your card) available for this transaction.

Do you have any accounts with Santander other than your Savings Account?

    Straight from their online banking:

Pay Money In - to my accounts

Remember, these services are only available if you have nominated an external account. To obtain a form to nominate an account plase call our Telephone Banking Service on 0845 609 0014

ps I like the word "plase". This is Santander 'quality' after all!

Same with me. I was given a debit card with the ISA.

When I had opened a (non-ISA) savings account with Santander (to transfer money from a migrated A&L account where they'd dropped the interest to nothing) I had to phone up and get customer services to set up a "bill payment" so that I could get money out of the account. This was available almost immediately online after finishing the phone call.

As it happened the process of moving my money from one Santander owned account to another proved to be far too complex for them to handle (insisted they could only pay the closing interest by cheque, took weeks to apparently action and then it never actually arrived, and then frustratingly difficult to find anyone that could understand the problem and remedy it) that the only use I had for that bill payment was to empty the account so I could take the money elsewhere. (Obviously don't do that with an ISA though!)

You're going to need to order a card or visit a branch. Just checked my online banking, was going to suggest setting up a new payment - but my ISA is the only one it doesn't let me do that from!

    :(
