    Was in the same situation few years back.

    Kept a P&L for the last 3 years of EVERY transaction over 50p.

    It's amazing how much money is wasted. Doesn't necessarily change my behavious but certainly makes me uch more aware where money is going.
  • £30 a week covers all of your groceries? Or just some?

    Yeah man. Bread, milk, fruit, some yogurt, limited crisps or biscuits, the rest is mostly frozen food with a few tins.

    Boring I know.
  • What about the Beer though..... You're young, have a good job and not in debt, PLUS you now want to start having something to show for your money, so I think it's a great wake up call you've had, I which I could earn the money you're on.

    I'm sure that this time next year you'll be wondering why you have so much money in the bank :)
    Opinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

    Income after tax = £53K
    Expenditure = £40K
    You have £13K left over - what is the problem???

    It's excessive if you don't do anything useful with it. It's not how much money you spend, it's what you do with it.

    What about the regular trips to the 'hole in the wall' for £20, £30 or £50 withdrawals? Keep an excel spreadsheet and balance your statement each month with a heading for cash machine withdrawals. It will open your eyes - honest!!

    Is it going on sex, drugs and alcohol, or are you just wasting it?
