Strange nobody seems to grow globe artichokes commercially in the UK. The traditional place to grow them in France is Brittany, where the climate is not very different to Cornwall-Devon-Somerset.

celeriac, I've not grown them to a proper size yet but I garden in hope :D

I love celeriac - I buy ours at the farmers market but would love to be able to grow them!

I don't grow anything unusual - just tomatoes, chillies and salad!

:o I didn't even realise that globe artichoke came up year after year, just as well I read this thread, or they would be popping up all over the place next year!

  • I've grown kohl rabi in the past - worst bit was peeling them as I recall but the flavour was great.

I'm trying some ruby chard this year for the first time this year just hope the family like it.

A couple of different things I'm trying this year are

    Watermelon
    Honeyberry
    Kale
    Fennel
    Tomatillo Green
    Cucumber White
    Purple Pak Choi

They may not be unusual but different for me. I did try the Pak Choi last year but it was eaten before it could get started properly as we had masses of caterpillars. Did all the people who are growing Tomatillos get them from the Thompson and Morgan sale last year? It seems a lot of us are growing them.

Oh I'll add Gooseberries as never eaten them before although I probably still won't be eating any until next year.

I'm not growing them just now because I don't have a garden any more :( but I used to grow radish pods which were lovely stir fried ... lots of recipes/uses if you Google

I think the variety was Munchen Bier, & was meant to be around 18" tall but ended up a monstrous bushy thing taller than me! :D

Oh and Goji berry. That's in it's second year so I should hopefully get to try some soon. I'd really like to do more chinese veg as that's what we cook at lot of.
