IPad 2 and ? which laptop

Advice wanted:

I have a 2.5 yr old Hp laptop which recently has been causing issues battery and power cable. Now.... screen going green, freezing, restarting and spliting into 6 and back to normal in 10 min cycle.

I accepted its dead/ dying.

Bad timing as I want to buy IPad 2 on Friday. I cant do this without some sort of netbook/ laptop.

I really at this time only use it for surfing net. But dont know what i may need to use it for in future.

Ive looked at netbooks.... not fussed a bit small for me.

Laptops- some good Sony deals E series laptops

Or Apple Macbook .

So my question is:
Prior to my hp laptop failing I imagined I would use my IPad mainly and use HP just to sync it up. See how much I used laptop after purchasing IPAD then look to replace HP with a macbook in future.

Now that point has come alot sooner and in reverse.

Should i buy a moderadly priced Sony. How much will i use it if I have IPad

Or should i look to Long Term and buy Macbook or am I buying a piece of technology at £900 just to sit in corner to get synced up every so often?

Advice welcome
thanks

An iPad isn't a Laptop / Netbook replacement.

I have an iPad and a MacBook Pro, to be honest I don't use my MacBook much, I use the iPad all the time but you need to be able to Sync it or use Office Program (not so easy on an iPad).

If my MacBook broke, I'd buy another tomorrow (hate Windows now), if my iPad broke I'd buy another iPad tomorrow.

What you should do depends on what you can afford, if I could only afford one item I'd buy a Mac (be that a MacBook, Air or Pro) and wait for the iPad3.
