  • I dont live in an upmarket area, nor a rough area, would say its middle of the road. All the tradesmen i been intouch with are local, so know the area when theyve bothered to turn up. Its not really the ones that dont turn up to give a quote, or dont send a quote, that bothers me,fair enough they dont want the job, its the ones that turn up, post a quote, agree to do the job, then disappear. Even worse when theyve given you a start date.
I booked 3 days off work, 1 day totally wasted, & now only have 2 days holiday owing, to be home if i can get another tradesman.

I'm looking forward to that bit. Still waiting for the quotes to come back from the guys we thought were ok. 2 out of 10.
  • I thought it would be about £200 for a basic membership. All i want is a criminal record check yearly, phone 5 or so customers a year, and spot checks on jobs once (or more) a year.

No advertisement, nothing else. Tradesmen who want that, can pay more if they want.

Just want the cert. to put customers mind a rest. Just cant justify spending that amount of money. Its a real let down that it costs so much

I am a tradesman[a plasterer by trade] and it ony takes a few bad tradesman to give the contruction industry a bad name. If i am to quote for work i try and always be on time and make it a rule to reply to a customer with a quote within 48 hours, even though half the time i know full well that the person will not have the work done, for whatever reason. its not just good business practice it is more just courtesy and politeness.
word of mouth will soon get out that you are a good tradesman with good work practices, hence the lack of need to advertise through various means.
  • it just seems the right thing to do........to have what i said above, but I'm not paying over the odds for it.

It was something stupid like £1000 to join and £400 per year here.

Nothing like that amount in East Sussex

Are you talking about a similar Trading Standards scheme? Where abouts is this? (Just curious as the E Sussex fee is only £61 if you have less than 5 employees and £183 if you have more than 21 employees)
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
